This is a slow careful process and we usually keep the mirrors from two to three weeks.
We only refurbish mirrors so please do not send the whole instrument, many thanks.
Prisms from nautical instruments and microscopes are usually no problem.
However, we are not camera repairers, or experts.
It may or may not be able to re-coat prisms from cameras
The protective paints and modern coating practices used,
can make refurbishment an almost impossible task.
If your prism has mirror coating and protective paint missing, we may
be able to help. If the reflection is showing haze, but there is no damage to
the protective paint, we would not be able to help.
Please read more below if interested.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING CAMERA PRISMS
Prisms from cameras made up to about 1970, are usually not a problem.
After that date it seems plastic/resin based protective coverings became more
widely used to protect the coatings.
These we find almost impossible to remove. We can only wait for the
acid paste we apply to creep through the damaged part of the coating.
We have customer's prisms showing very little change after more than a year.
We could not therefore advise you how long it would l take to remove the
protective 'paint'.
If we feel we can help, turn around time seems to average at least a year.
Also please be advised that we vacuum coat items with pure aluminium.
Again if you require a silver coating, this is a different process
and not possible for us. (Silver reflects about 5% more light )
